Week 14 in detail

Lanugo, bile, and a sucking reflex

Baby this week

A fine hair (lanugo) covers the body for temperature control in the water. The liver makes bile; the spleen helps with blood cells. Sucking motions start — practice for feeding months from now.

  • Lanugo is shed later; it is not the hair you will see at birth
  • The neck is longer; the chin is off the chest
  • Sex organs are more developed; anatomy scans still wait a few weeks

Your body this week

Round-ligament twinges continue as the uterus rises out of the pelvis. Appetite often jumps. Constipation and heartburn show up because gut muscle slows. Fibre and water beat heroic coffee.

  • A pregnancy pillow this early is not extra — side-sleep habits stick
  • Iron-rich food matters as blood volume keeps climbing
  • Sharp ligament pain that fades when you sit is typical; pain that does not fade is not

Get ready

A C- or U-shaped pillow is easier to buy now than when you cannot roll over. The checklist above is pillow, fibre, and movement. If constipation lasts despite fibre and fluids, ask before adding stimulant laxatives.
