Week 33 in detail

Skull still flexible — colostrum may leak

Baby this week

Skull bones are harder but unfused so they can overlap in the birth canal. The immune system is stronger. Sucking and swallowing are constant practice. Nails reach the fingertips.

  • Soft spots (fontanelles) are normal and stay after birth
  • Colostrum in the breasts is first milk, even a few drops
  • Head-down is likely; a breech now still has time or a plan

Your body this week

Pelvic pressure as the head sits lower is “lightening” for some, just pressure for others. Leaking colostrum is messy and normal. Nursing pads are allowed before birth.

  • A car seat installed this week is one less argument at 39 weeks
  • Sterilise pump parts only if you plan to pump — bottles can wait if you are unsure
  • Leaking does not predict supply

Get ready

Buy pads for leaks. Install the car seat and have it checked if a local scheme exists. The checklist above is pads, the seat, and kit. If you are leaking fluid that is watery and keeps coming, that may be waters — call.
