Baby this week
The central nervous system and lungs are close to term function. Nails are long. There is less room for somersaults, so you feel rolls and jabs more than sweeps. Eyes open when awake and can respond to light. Vernix thickens; lanugo sheds.
- A change from kicks to rolls is space, not necessarily distress — a change to silence is distress until checked
- Bones are hard; the skull stays mouldable
- Born now, most babies do well with support — still a hospital plan
