Week 10 in detail

Embryo becomes a fetus β€” organs are in place

Baby this week

This is the usual week textbooks switch from β€œembryo” to β€œfetus.” Major organs exist in miniature. Bones are starting to harden. Fingernails are appearing. The riskiest structural-development window is largely behind you β€” growth takes over.

  • The tail is gone; the body plan is recognizably human
  • Intestines that bulged into the cord are moving back into the abdomen
  • External genitals are forming but sex is often not obvious on scan yet

Your body this week

Sharp twinges in the groin or hip (round ligament) can start as the uterus rises. They are usually brief. Constant one-sided pain, fever, or shoulder-tip pain is not β€œligament” β€” get checked.

  • A belly that feels tight after standing is common
  • Nausea may still be present; it does not mean development failed
  • Moisturiser now is habit, not a stretch-mark guarantee

Get ready

Ask about NIPT (a blood test for certain chromosomal conditions). It is optional, not mandatory, and it is a screen, not a diagnosis. The checklist above is the prompt; your clinician should explain false positives before you pay.

A general guide, not medical advice. Scan timing and symptoms vary β€” ask your clinician.
