Week 9 in detail

Four-chamber heart β€” fingers and toes are separating

Baby this week

The heart is forming four chambers. Fingers and toes are no longer paddles. Eyes are sealed. The head still looks large. Essential structures are going in; the rest of pregnancy is mostly growth and maturation.

  • Separate digits are a visible milestone on a good scan
  • Eyelids are fused β€” they will open much later
  • Cartilage is present; hard bone is still ahead

Your body this week

High progesterone means bloating, stuffy nose, and headaches for some. Skin can clear or break out. Neither predicts the baby’s sex. Mild headache that eases with water and rest is common; a sudden severe headache is a call, not a nap experiment.

  • Bloating is not β€œalready showing” for most people this early
  • Gentle walking often helps more than lying still all day
  • Keep a simple symptom log for the dating-scan visit

Get ready for the dating scan

Book the 11–14 week scan (dating plus nuchal translucency if offered) if it is not already locked. The checklist above covers booking and insurance. Ask whether NIPT will be discussed at the same visit or later.
