Week 36 in detail

Early term is next week — GBS and “dropping”

Baby this week

Fat is in the cheeks. Sucking muscles are ready to feed. Many babies drop (engage) into the pelvis: you breathe easier and pee twice as often. Group-B strep (GBS) swab is a common 36-week test.

  • Engaged is not “labour tomorrow” — it can be days or weeks
  • GBS positive means antibiotics in labour, not a dirty house
  • Lungs are usually ready; every day still adds fat

Your body this week

Appointments get closer together. Braxton Hicks can be frequent. Real labour still needs a pattern. Register on the hospital portal while you can remember the password.

  • The contraction timer is for timing a pattern, not for every twinge
  • If the baby is still breech, this is a turning / birth-mode conversation week
  • A mucus plug can go days before labour

Get ready for weekly checks

Go to the 36-week visit and GBS test. Finish portal registration. The checklist above is the visit, the portal, and breathing practice. Pack the bag if you have been delaying — 36 is a fair “could go” week.

A general guide, not medical advice. Scan timing and symptoms vary — ask your clinician.
